Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a physician’s referral/prescription for physical therapy or acupuncture?
You do not need a physician referral to receive acupuncture treatment. Patients can access physical therapy services without a physician referral through a process known as “direct access.” Direct access allows patients to be seen for the initial evaluation and then to be treated for up to 10 visits or 30 calendar days, whichever comes first, without a prescription from a physician. At the end of the 30-day period, if further physical therapy services are necessary, a prescription from a physician would be required.
What are the Options for Payment?
We are strictly an out-of-network provider and payment is expected at the time services are rendered. We do not participate in Medicare. We do accept cash, check, and credit cards. Additionally, services may be covered by your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). As a courtesy to you, we will submit your claims electronically to your health insurance carrier for potential partial or full reimbursement. Please note that we make no representation that you will be reimbursed in part or in full for services rendered, and we encourage you to understand the terms and conditions of the reimbursement eligibility and process of your health insurance carrier.
Workers compensation?
We do work with professional dancers and performing artists covered by Worker’s Compensation. We will verify your benefits and bill your worker’s compensation carrier directly.
What should I expect on my first visit?
For an initial consultation & treatment, please be sure to arrive at least 15 min prior to your scheduled appointment time so that you can complete the necessary paperwork in advance. On your first visit, we will perform a comprehensive physical examination that includes a thorough medical history, postural assessment, neurological screening, and objective tests and measures to gain a more specific understanding of your condition. We will use the information obtained from your evaluation to formulate a clinical judgment as to your prognosis and appropriate treatment intervention. A rehabilitation program will be developed based upon the problems identified and your personal goals.
What types of interventions may I receive?
The interventions you receive will depend on what we find in the evaluation. Most physical therapy plans of care will include manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise, and functional training in sport, work, or home-related tasks. Other interventions might include electrical stimulation, laser, ultrasound, biomechanical and postural reeducation, orthotics, taping & padding, and ergonomic analysis. Our intervention programs include coordination among other health care professionals involved in your care, thorough documentation of the care and services provided, and instruction to you and others involved in your care.
How long will my visit last?
The initial evaluation & treatment will last approximately 60 minutes depending upon the complexity of the case. Follow-up appointments typically vary in length, and are dependent upon the type of injury and the level of rehabilitation that is required. Usually the average follow-up appointment will last anywhere from 45-60 minutes.
What should I wear?
In general, be sure to bring loose-fitting comfortable attire or athletic wear (T-shirts, shorts, athletic shoes, etc.) to allow for evaluation and movement. Patients with hip, knee, ankle, or foot injury should wear shorts or loose fitting pants to allow proper exposure of the affected body part. Female patients with shoulder dysfunction should wear a tank top or a loose fitting short-sleeved shirt to minimize the necessity for a gown while allowing adequate exposure of the shoulder girdle complex.
What other office policies should I be aware of?
