Orthopaedic Manual Therapy

Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT) is “hands-on” treatment provided by a highly skilled physical therapist with advanced post-graduate training and specialty certification that Cameron integrates into many treatment sessions.

The treatment may include moving joints in specific directions and at different speeds to regain movement (joint mobilization & manipulation), muscle stretching, passive movements of the affected body part, or having the patient move the body part against the therapist’s resistance to improve muscle activation and timing.  Soft tissue techniques such as myofascial release and trigger point therapy also may be used to improve the mobility and function of the muscles and connective tissues.

Using gentle, effective manual techniques, we can help alleviate muscle tightness, improve movement in the joints, reduce pain, and improve your physical function so that you may Move Freely and Live Fully.

In each 60 minute individualized OMT treatment, skilled hand movements are used to produce the following effects:

  • Normalize range of motion or increase mobility in stiff spinal or peripheral joints

  • Mobilize or manipulate myofascial tissues & joints

  • Improve soft tissue extensibility

  • Induce relaxation

  • Normalize muscle function

  • Modulate pain

  • Reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation or movement restriction
